Abstract
Ankle sprain are extremly common injuries.
Since 1978, we performed ankle arthrography and stress films in 40 cases of acute ankle sprains and obtained abnormal findings roentgenographically suspected to be ligamentous tear in 18 cases.
In 18 cases, we explored surgically and found that arthrographic findings were closely related to findings at operation.
Ankle arthrography is technically easy to perfossn and is mostly accurate in delinating the extent of ligamentous injuries.
We believed that the goal in the treatment of moderate or severe ankle sprain is maintained a stable ankle and that certain type of ligamentous iniuries, such as deltoid ligaments, anterior tibiofibular ligaments and combined lateral ligaments, require arthrography and operative repair for optimal results.
